Grand Isle and her resilient residents have made tremendous progress in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, marinas, shrimp sheds, charter board services, and other businesses are operating. We have all essential services and our beaches are intact and beautiful. Take a break and come enjoy some time on the beach, fishing, crabbing or just relaxing. Our beach raked and cleaned each and every morning by dedicated town employees. We have one of the cleanest beaches on the entire gulf coast from Texas to Florida. All of the photographs on our website show the properties in their current condition.

Please remember that Grand Isle is an important part of the great State of Louisiana and you owe it to yourself to visit or re-visit this sub-tropical island instead of always heading to Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, or even the east coast. Grand Isle has superior inshore and offshore fishing - second to none. Please check out our fishing link for a list of our tremendous charter boat captains. Surf fishing is spectacular and crabbing is unmatched anywhere along the gulf coast.

We, at Grand Isle Real Estate, look forward to working with all of our long time customers and friends. You may remember Irv Magri's 30 year run on Louisiana and New Orleans radio from 1967 to 1997. His radio show was one of the most popular call-up and talk shows and was entitled, "The Detectives" with the late Captain Van H. Flynn and the late Larry Reagan on WSMB and WGSO radio. This anti-crime radio show later became, "Crimewave on WTIX radio in New Orleans and WJBO radio in Baton Rouge, La. Irv also served as the Chairman of the Louisiana Pardon Board and was a member of the state parole board after retiring as a New 0rleans police detective and supervisor. Additionally, Irv Magri Founded the Police Association of New Orleans (PANO) and served as the State President of 22 police unions throughout Louisiana. He also had his own fishing show on local television in the 1970s.

If you have never been to Grand Isle, we would love to show you around. If given enough advanced time and weather permitting, Irv will give you a boat ride around part of Grand Isle so that you can view it from either the bay or the Gulf of Mexico. Adults only and no alcohol are allowed on the boat trip. Please make your requests early.

Grand Isle is the gem of Louisiana and its only inhabited island. The island is approximately seven and a half miles long and one mile wide at its widest. The island is steeped deep in Louisiana history. If it was not for Jean Lafitte, his brother Pierre, Dominck You, Nez Coupee Chighizola, and approximately 600-800 privateers coming to the aide of America and then General Andrew Jackson on January 8th, 1815, who knows the course of American history? America was involved in the War of 1812 was Great Britain who had just invaded American and burnt the White House in Washington D.C. General Andrew Jackson destined to become the seventh president of the United States of America and Jean Lafitte and his buccaneers joined Jackson's small American army of 4,500 and easily defeated the British invasion force and saved the city of New Orleans which was America's second largest port and fourth largest city. Those brave and courageous privateers left their home base of both Grand Isle and Grand Terre to fight the large and highly experienced 12,000 member English army that landed at what is now know as Chalmette Battlefield. Over 2,000 British soldiers were killed on that cold, foggy morning with only thirteen American lives lost. This military victory ranked as the greatest military victory ever on American soil.

When a person or family visits Grand Isle, they are usually awed by its natural beauty. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the huge number of eastern brown pelicans (the official state bird), porpoises, seagulls, sand pipers, as well as the very old oak forest and nature conservatory in the interior of this beautiful sub-tropical island. Grand Isle provides a great weekend getaway or a long, fun filled vacation for the entire family. Fishing, crabbing, beach walking, bird watching, scuba diving, and riding the waves and the surf - means fun for all members of the family!

We have some of the best saltwater fishing that you will find anywhere on earth. Our fertile waters are teaming with speckled trout, white trout, redfish, flounder, croaker, amberjack, bluefish, cobia (lemon fish), red snapper, wahoo, yellow fin and blue fin tuna, king and Spanish mackerel, sheep head, flounder, pompano, black drum, shark and many other species of fish.

Bring your own boat for some great inside fishing in Caminada or Barataria Pass or one of the many lakes, bays and marshes, or let your charter captain take you out to the world's largest artificial reef - our oil rigs and platforms.

If boating is not for you, catch your limit in the surf or from the banks. If you can't catch fish in Grand Isle, you can't catch fish anywhere. Enjoy a swim in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, relax on our beautiful beaches or visit Grand Isle State Park at the eastern tip of Grand Isle. Take a scenic drive through the old lanes in the center of the island and view the beautiful old oak trees and many historic homes. Hike through the nature conservatory and enjoy exotic birds, wildlife and beautiful foliage.

Of course, any trip to Grand Isle always includes some of the best seafood you will find anywhere. Fresh fish, shrimp, crabs and oysters are plentiful and caught in our local island waters by Grand Isle natives. Cook your own or enjoy a meal at some of our fine local restaurants.

Please remember that Irv Magri will be more than happy to not only show you real estate listings, but will be glad to share the local history of Grand Isle with you and your family. Irv knows Grand Isle very well as his parents before him lived and prospered on this island hideaway. Grand Isle is fortunate to have some of, if not the lowest prices on both vacant real estate and housing anywhere on the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to Texas! Take advantage of Grand Isle's beauty, history, world class fishing, and low prices on this beautiful island. Call Irv Magri today for additional information.
